Composer // Singer

Piers Connor Kennedy is a Welsh-Irish composer and singer based in Suffolk.

Having performed with ensembles including The Tallis Scholars, Tenebrae, SANSARA, Siglo de Oro and Ensemble Pro Victoria, in January 2025 Piers becomes the 29th member of The King's Singers, replacing Johnny Howard as the low bass.

In 2023 Piers completed his DPhil in Composition, supervised by Prof. Martyn Harry, at St Cross College Oxford, where he held the Hélène La Rue Scholarship in Music. As a composer, Piers’ music has been performed internationally by ensembles including The Gesualdo Six, Ex Cathedra and The Choir of Trinity Wall Street. Specialising in vocal and instrumental composition, Piers has received commissions from The Three Choirs Festival, the Edington Music Festival, SANSARA, Ensemble Pro Victoria, The Choir of St John’s College Cambridge, The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge and Christ Church Cathedral Choir Oxford – the latter five which have also made recordings of his music.

Recent commissions include In the Midst for Sansara with violinist Julian Azkoul (recorded by Apple Music’s Platoon label), Nowel el el for Ensemble Pro Victoria and harpist Cecily Beer (recorded by Delphian), and five flowers – a BBC Radio 3 & Wigmore Hall co-commission for counter-tenor Hugh Cutting. Piers’ residency as Associate Composer at St Peter’s College Oxford (2022-23) culminated in a full-length album recording of his works which to be released in February 2025. Current projects include commissions for the choirs of Salisbury, Wells, and Truro Cathedrals, as well as for BBC Sounds and Ensemble Altera.
